Tile is mainly used for containing the water within a particular area. And tile itself an impervious material. If skirting is not fitted in the area where tile flooring is ending, then water will pass into the next layer of finishing. This will lead to spreading of moisture on the adjacent wall. In simpler words, tile flooring without skirting is like a flat plate; if we pour water into flat plate the water will travel to the edges of the plate & flow to the outside i.e. underside. But if skirting is fitted, it will act like a plate with edges like rice plate; hence will contain the water within.
